A server solution to Ecard & subscription storm issue

Things have changed over the past 12 month. The Ecard storm and it's variants cause problems for many spam and virus filters. Most of the dangerous emails pass right through it. Thanks to the flexibility of XWall that's not the case here. Our CCS subscription filter is always ready for the next wave.

Fast-spreading viruses and "downloadable" viruses are a major problem for virus scanners. No wonder some sites are dedicated to rate these products measuring the time is takes to discover and actually defend against a new tread. Sadly, the truth is it's always too late for some of us. The nature of common virus detection depends on a pattern file that needs to be updated to detect the new virus and to block it. Time counts; typically hours go by and sometimes even days before the new pattern file becomes available...and then everybody wants it at the same time. Clearly, that's not an acceptable solution.

Now there is a new way of handling unknown virus treads. The new CENTRAL CHECKSUM SERVICE filter in XWall is just the tool you have been waiting for. We've seen many viruses literally outrun the virus scanner.

The XWall Central Checksum Service is different and fast.

Here how it works: Each e-mail XWall receives is analyzed for spam or standard virus content. That requires XWall to assemble the message. XWall calculates a checksum value of the message body and transmits the checksum to the central server. Since XWall is a very popular spam filter, the Central Checksum Server gets millions of checksums. The central server logs the checksum and it tells your XWall how often that checksum was seen in a certain time frame If that number is higher than the threshold you set, the message will be blocked. The CCS service is lighting fast. You may compare it to the speed of a DNSBL or SLS service and even servers handling e-mail for thousands of users will not experience a noticeable slowdown.

What does it block?

CCS is a great way to detect any mass mailing and you can control the sensitivity of the filter.

Virus Outbreaks: Most serious virus outbreaks have one thing in common. They spread fast. That means there where literally millions of virus messages with the same content floating all over the place. CCS is always ready for them.

ECards: They are really a problem to detect with common virus scans or with a regular Spam filter. XWall protects you with CCS and you can set an html trap to block any message containing a numeric web address.

PDF and Images: Of what will they think next? If you dealt with these pests you know they need your constant attention because the emails change over time. Blocking PDF files is not an option in most cases. Again CCS can be the answer and eliminates a substantial amount of the stock quote spam.

Big Spamers: CCS also detects massive spam mailing and blocks them as well. The XWall spam filter and SMTP firewall includes numerous other filters and successfully blocks spam and viruses for many corporations, schools and institutions.

XWall -the whole story

The XWall CCS is effective because of the thousands of XWall installations all over the world. If you are not already familiar with XWall we recommend checking the links at the end of this page. XWall can lower your mail server load by 80%. XWall is available as a software or hardware solution. It installs directly on your Exchange server or can be deployed on it's on system. It is licensed per server with an unlimited user count. The CCS service is an add-on option / subscription.

XWall CCS - What are you missing? Over the past year or two we have seen new types of spam to evolve. In some cases spamers come up with some pretty interesting ways of getting their message delivered. However there is something they have in common. It's quantity - the more spam they send the more profits they can expect. That's exactly where XWall CCS enters the picture. The CCS is based on a message body checksum. All XWalls with CCS send their checksums to the central server and it keeps track of the bad guys. Actually the more spam the better it gets. A year ago you may considered CCS to catch an other percent or two of your spam. Today it's getting to be a premier tool to catch spam. Take a look at the screenshots. Not only has CCS moved up in the ranks, it catches a lot of spam other filters will not. Best of all it stops new variant of spam without your intervention.

CCS offers you ways to combat E-CARD and other virus outbreaks. The XWall CENTRAL CHECKSUM SERVICE is just the tool to take on the ecards. Some viruses and e-cards literally outrun the virus scanner but they do not escape this XWall service.

CCS BASICS is an add-on to XWall. It is available based on a yearly subscription of 99.00 per XWall or XWall ISP license. Anytime there is a large scale mailing (Spam, Virues) your XWall server will start seeing these messages and so do thousands of other XWall installations. The XWall Central Checksum Server will log them and within minutes your XWall can protect your mail server from the virus or ecards.
