To give you some basic idea what you're looking at, Hard disk Manager is a Swiss Army knife type product for hard drives. Back in the days of Powerquest it would have been a combo between Partition Magic and Drive Image. However HDM has more to offer than a tool you use once and forget it.

The latest feature (available in XP, Vista and 2003, 2008 servers) is the hot resizing and backup feature. It allows you to do these operations on live machines while the applications and services are running. How often did you forget to exit your Outlook on your workstation or check the current prices of server backup solutions that handle open files? This feature alone makes the package worth every penny.

Did you notice that running Microsofts disk defragmenter mulitple times often improves the resul? In other words it does not to that great of a job. HDM has an excellent defrag utility built in to the package.

What you you do with the systems your company retires? Too many fill up the landfills. Many just remove the hard drive and by doing so create a boat anchor. Use HDM's disk wipe function. It over writes the entire data surface with all "A"s or "B"s ... or both multipe times if you like. Not even the TV CSI's can find any of your data after that.

THE PARTITIONING portion of the utility does what you expect and more. You can expand, shrink, merge, copy or convert all basic partitions. If you have dynamic partitions HDM can convert them to basic. HDM also will convert your old FAT 16 NT partition to NTFS. 70% of our customers have a Dell server with small C-partitions. HDM works great with PERC 3,4,5 SCSI Raid controllers and the CERC series S-ATA Raid controller Dell uses.

The BACKUP feature allows you to backup a partition or the entire drive. HDM backups can be scheduled. Just to give you an example, you can do a full backup on the weekend and differential backup during the week. HDM can backup to attached storage like a USB or Firewire drive, through the network or burn the image files to DVD. If you need to restore you can restore single files, folders, partitions or the entire drive. A BARE METAL option is provided at no additional cost. Simply boot the Recovery CD. If you backup to DVD you can make them self-booting.

The PRO and SERVER versions offer command line and script processing for easy integration in any project.
